Art Without Rules: The 6-Meter Inflatable Adventure in Hong Kong

During the vibrant "Art Basel" season in Hong Kong, the industrial-chic district of Wong Chuk Hang became the stage for a surreal artistic adventure. At Landmark South, artist Bao Rong unveiled her latest solo exhibition, "Bao Rong is also Me, Two!", featuring the massive interactive centerpiece: "The Hole"(洞).

Engineering the Surreal "The Hole" is a 6-meter-long inflatable tunnel that invites visitors to crawl inside and experience a world that is simultaneously soft, rebellious, and whimsical. At Gauss Inflatables, we were tasked with the challenge of translating Bao Rong’s unique aesthetic which revolves around "softness and humor" into a large-scale physical structure. Unlike standard industrial inflatables, this piece required a delicate touch to preserve the artist's intended "organic" and "imperfect" feel while ensuring the structural safety needed for a high-traffic public exhibition.

Interactive Soft Sculpture Working with materials like high-grade PVC and specialized internal support systems, our R&D center developed a manufacturing process that allows the tunnel to be both durable and tactile. The result is a "soft rebellion" against traditional, serious art rules. Visitors are encouraged to touch, enter, and play within the installation, making the art a living, breathing part of the Hong Kong gallery space.
